Drivers fight for gas as Torrington stations run low ahead of blizzard

The Register Citizen -- With the anticipated snow storm that’s expected to hit Connecticut early Friday and potentially drop up to 2 feet of snow by mid-day Saturday, some local gas stations have run out of gas trying to keep up with the demand.

Torrington residents took to the gas pumps in preparation for what could be a historic storm.

The New Litchfield Street Cumberland Farms gas tanks dried up until late Thursday evening.

“We were out earlier, (a gas truck) just dropped a load. But there is a line, we had 4400 gallons and now half our delivery is gone already,” said manager Gina McGuingal. “I’ve had to break up a couple fights, it’s been nuts. The line has been consistent at the pumps.”

Get your food, fuel and any necessary supplies as early as possible. OR have supplies on hand so you are Not caught short and you don't have to go out and get the stuff at the last moment. Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Yes, you should plan ahead and fill up the tank early, and yes, the streets will probably be cleared in two or three days. But if the power in your area is out for a week or more (heavy snow does bring down tree limbs that bring down power lines), your local gas station better have heavy duty generators or your not going to be able to get any gas until the power is restored. Power outages are already being reported all over southern New England.

Then the snow blocks all of the roads so you can not even drive anyway. Don't worry. You have a full tank of gas in that car that is stuck in the snow that is useless.

I usually try to keep a 30+ gallon back-up supply for such issues and the routine tri-weekly gas spike which lately seems to hover around a 45cent per gallon jump every 3 weeks.
