Most will say anything to get elected. The proof is in their actions, so we need to look at their past record (if there is one).

It was a part of, but certainly not the only issue of importance in the last election. It is one that will continue to be high on the list of issues in future elections.

It would have some impact... though it is no greater than #3 on my list... Core values lead to the best overall for our country and anything like and energy plan would be derived from the individuals core values.

Absolutely would swing my votes. We've spent enough time poking holes in the ground and paying the Middle East for their holes since we don't want that mess in our back yard.
It's time to do something different. We need a sustainable alternative and any candidate that comes up with that plan has my vote.

ə sheesh! someone didn't use the proper procedure to display the link! ☹ anyway, i said "somewhat influence". i've seen too many politicians say one thing and do another to think there would be any change. to keep things from being censored, i'll term it "ffnd". that is, "familiar feces, new day". ə

Someone doesn't like my answer, even though I provided links to web sites to show where I quoted people. Oh well. Some people won't be happy in heaven...
Myth: "Oil companies are sitting on 68 million acres of oil leases and refuse to drill." This is yet another slander of "Big Oil" by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — one that has become a major talking point for Democrats in Congress. It's completely dishonest. Read more here...
Someone else was raving about Obama's new energy plan. I quote: "Obama's comprehensive New Energy for America plan will: ...Implement an economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80% by 2050." http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/factsheet_energy_speech_080308.pdf
Now here's what I discvered about the Cap and Trade boondoggle:
http://www.epa.gov/airmarkets/cap-trade/index.html Cap and Trade: "Cap and Trade is a market-based policy tool for protecting human health and the environment. A cap and trade program first sets an aggressive cap, or maximum limit, on emissions. Sources covered by the program then receive authorizations to emit in the form of emissions allowances, with the total amount of allowances limited by the cap."
Doesn't that make you feel special? Where does all that money go?
http://www.buckeyestateblog.com/keep_it_simple_stupid_forget_cap_and_trade "A cap-and-trade system would create a massive new bureaucracy with an enormously complex rule system ripe for exploitation by industry lobbyists. That's what has happened in the EU, and thanks to exemptions and over-issuing of credits, it has had minimal impact on CO2 levels." "Politicians like the term cap-and-trade because the word "tax" appears nowhere in it. But the effect would be the same as a tax..."
http://www.heritage.org/Research/Economy/wm1723.cfm Beware of Cap and Trade Climate Bills "America's Climate Security Act of 2007 (S. 2191), sponsored by Senators Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) and John Warner (R-VA), is the latest and fastest-moving "cap and trade" bill introduced in Congress this year. All such climate change measures warrant careful scrutiny, as they would likely increase energy costs and do considerably more economic harm than environmental good.
"These measures would set a limit, or cap, on carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel use. The effect of such a cap would be to impose rationing of coal, oil, and natural gas on the American economy. By limiting the supply of fossil fuels, S. 2191 would raise the cost of energy. For consumers, cap and trade means more expensive gasoline and electricity as well as net job losses in energy-dependent sectors. The net job losses from S. 2191 are estimated by Charles River Associates to be 1.2 million to 2.3 million by 2015.[9] Some of these jobs will be lost for good, due to the impact of higher energy costs on economic activity. Others, chiefly in the manufacturing sector, will be sent overseas.
"While the costs of aggressive cap and trade proposals are substantial, the environmental benefits are suspect.
"Conclusion: Cap and trade bills are nothing short of a government re-engineering of the American economy. And S. 2191, with its aggressive targets to reduce emissions from fossil fuel use, would put the nation on a path of serious economic harm not justified by any benefits."
Did I mention the Global Warming hoax?
http://media.newsbusters.org/stories/weather-channel-founder-global-warming-greatest-scam-history.html?q=blogs/noel-sheppard/2007/11/07/weather-channel-founder-global-warming-greatest-scam-history
"Weather Channel Founder: Global Warming ‘Greatest Scam in History’. If the founder of The Weather Channel spoke out strongly against the manmade global warming myth, might media members notice? We're going to find out the answer to that question soon, for John Coleman wrote an article published at ICECAP Wednesday that should certainly garner attention from press members -- assuming journalism hasn't been completely replaced by propagandist activism, that is.
"Coleman marvelously began, "It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create in [sic] allusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the "research" to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus."

For all the ranting about how the Pickens plan does nothing but increase shareholders of CLNE, hey, guess what, you too can profit from the Pickens plan buy buying shares of CLNE. This isn't Communist China, no one forbids you from buying any stock on the open market.
Invest in energy independence AND make some money. Sounds win-win to me.

wow SenileOldMan you sure are senile. Give me a break, if you think drilling is still the answer. You are gullible enough to believe the Big Oil guys. They already own vast amounts of drilling rights lands (or have rights to them) and yet they only drill on a small percentage of the total acreage they have access to. Why do we have to give them rights to the few remaining natural resources and endangered species lands (like Polar Bear territory - specifically Alaska's Chukchi and Beaufort seas ).
Republicans like you, do a great job of slamming the truth with lies about Pelosi and Pickens.
Most Democrats are strongly in favor of renewable energy. Please lets look at wind energy farms that allow us to charge our Plug-in Hybrids.
Not only saving global warming , but also changing our ridiculous and long past overdue dependence on foreign oil.
